Mirage 7: Drakkar Dev’s Desert Fairy Tale Swaps Robots for Sand and Story

Mirage 7 transforms Drakkar Dev’s mecha roots into a desert fairy tale inspired by Sicilian-Arabic culture. Co-founder Manlio Greco discusses the game’s narrative shift and cardboard-prototyped temple.

Mirage 7's desert landscape and cultural elements

Drakkar Dev swaps jetpacks for sand dunes in Mirage 7, a passion project that’s less robot war and more desert fairy tale.

Co-founder Manlio Greco described the game as a 'dark fairytale' rooted in Sicilian-Arabic culture.

"It’s the definition of a passion project," he said. The narrative shift from mecha action to desert-based storytelling required overcoming design challenges, particularly the cardboard-prototyped temple level.

'Jiji is the reason we can tell the story,' Greco explained. The game’s hybrid antagonist, introduced in a jump-scare opening, was 'the hardest part, but for us it's the best part of the game.'

Mirage 7 launched on the Epic Games Store on March 6, 2026.
