Sony's PC Port Timing is Costing Them Gamers – Data Shows the Delay Dilemma

Sony's delayed PC ports are losing 70% of players to consoles, with data showing simultaneous releases capture 44% of audiences.

Sony's PC ports are getting the short end of the stick, and it's all about when you drop the game. Newzoo's data reveals a stark divide: Sony's PC ports capture ~13% of players when delayed, compared to ~44% when released simultaneously with consoles.

The numbers don't lie—games like Horizon Zero Dawn (22% PC share) and Spider-Man 2 (5% PC share) exemplify the platform split problem.

"When a PC version arrives years after the console launch, much of the early lifecycle demand has already been captured on the primary platform," explains the report.

This timing gap creates a compounding issue: PC players often arrive late to the party, facing outdated hardware requirements and fragmented community engagement.

Xbox's upcoming console, which will play PC games, contrasts Sony's current approach. While Sony's leadership changes hint at potential strategy shifts, the data suggests immediate action is needed to close the PC share gap.
