Meta and AMD: A 6GW GPU Gamble to Power the Next AI Era
Meta just doubled down on its AI ambitions by locking AMD into a 6GW GPU partnership—here’s why this matters for the future of AI.
Meta and AMD announced a multi-year agreement to deploy up to 6GW of AMD Instinct GPUs for AI infrastructure. Shipments of the first GPU deployments will begin in Q3 2026, built on Meta’s Helios rack-scale architecture developed with AMD.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su stated: "This multi-year, multi-generation collaboration... will deliver high-performance, energy-efficient infrastructure optimized for Meta’s workloads."
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg added: "This is an important step for Meta as we diversify our compute."

The partnership is part of Meta’s 'Meta Compute' initiative, combining AMD hardware with its own Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) silicon program. AMD will collaborate across silicon, systems, and software to align roadmaps for AI workloads.
