YouTube Premium Lite users finally get the offline freedom they begged for — but the full package remains behind a steeper price tag.
Background Play and Downloads features are now available on YouTube Premium Lite. The company expanded its Premium Lite pilot to more markets and heard feedback about wanting these additional features. Premium Lite users can now watch 'most videos ad-free, offline and in the background.'

However, if you want to watch all videos ad free, offline, and in the background — including music content and YouTube Music Premium — YouTube Premium is still the best option. Features are rolling out 'in the coming weeks' to all Premium Lite markets.
