Wing’s Snack-Fueled Drone Flywheel: Scaling to 270 Walmart Stores by 2027
What’s faster than a drone delivering your snacks? Wing 150-store Walmart expansion proves grocery delivery is now airborne—and powered by lunchables.
Wing and Walmart are expanding drone delivery to 150 additional stores by 2027, bringing the total to 270 locations. The top 25% of Wing users order three times weekly, with eggs, ground beef, and snacks like Takis as the most requested items.
Wing’s new Chief Business Officer Heather Rivera confirmed a January 15, 2026 launch in Houston, using new aircraft capable of carrying five-pound payloads currently in testing.
"Volume is definitely powering our flywheel," Rivera said. The partnership began with a 2023 Dallas pilot covering 60,000 homes and expanded to 18 stores by 2024. This "clustering" strategy—launching multiple stores simultaneously—contrasts with previous gradual rollouts.
Rivera emphasized scale over immediate profitability, declining to project financial figures but noting the technical shift to five-pound aircraft remains in test flight stages.
