The End of a Bullshitter Era: How a Joke Twitter Account Outlasted Peter Molyneux's Career

Peter Molydeux parody account and Peter Molyneux's Masters of Albion

After 17 years of mocking game devs with wild ideas, the Peter Molydeux parody account is retiring—just in time for the real Peter Molyneux to finally release his promised last game. Masters of Albion launches April 22, but the joke account that once skewered Molyneux’s “outrageous” concepts will not live to see its creator’s redemption.

Adam Capone, the mind behind the parody, described the account’s 2012 MolyJam event as a “catalyst” for indie innovation. “Imagine a game where you can date and form a deep meaningful relationship with your weapons,” one of his fictional pitches read—years before games like Donut County and Viewfinder turned absurdist ideas into hit mechanics. Capone’s farewell message emphasized that “creative risks—not technology or metrics—are what truly push the medium forward.”

The parody’s lifespan outlasted Molyneux’s career stability. While the real Peter Molyneux delayed Masters of Albion for over a decade, Capone’s satirical rants about “Xbox Arcade” prototypes became a mirror for industry excesses.

The 2023 closure of Ubisoft Halifax—where Molyneux once worked—highlighted the instability he’s navigated. Capone concluded, “I hope every generation creates its own Molyneuxs,” a nod to how his jokes inadvertently inspired real developers.
