Starfield’s Free Lanes Update Adds Real-Time Planet-Hopping

Fly planet-to-planet in real time, keep 200 items through Unity loops, and recruit a Milliwhale when Free Lanes hits April 7.

Starfield’s finally letting you point your ship at a planet and just go—no menus, no loading screens, no excuses. The Free Lanes update lands April 7 on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X with a PS5 port, story DLC, and a price cut tucked inside.

Cruise mode is the marquee fix: pick a destination, throttle up, and walk around your cockpit while the cosmos rolls by in real time. Design director Emil Pagliarulo keeps expectations grounded.

Bond-villain asteroid mansion arrives as the new home base. It packs a greenhouse, gym, and hangar; the price tag is still TBA, so start hoarding credits now. The Moon Jumper land buggy brings "crazy boost capacity" you can spam to hover like a low-gravity lawn chair.

Min-maxers get immediate wins:

  • Fast-travel favorites list kills the three-menu slog.
  • Quantum Entanglement Device preserves up to 200 items through Unity time-loops.

X-Tech looted from boss chests feeds a four-tier reroll system for legendary weapons and ship mods. Maria Hughes and the useless but cute Model G robot join the crew roster. A quest-delivered Milliwhale pet parks at outposts; it’s decorative, not deadly.
