Samsung and Intel SmartPower HDR Promises 22% Power Savings for HDR Laptops — Without Sacrificing Brightness
Samsung and Intel’s SmartPower HDR could finally make HDR laptops a power-efficient reality — without dimming your screen.
The co-developed technology for OLED laptops reduces power consumption by up to 22% compared to traditional HDR. Samsung says this reduction in power draw can lead to 30-40 minutes of extra battery life.

SmartPower HDR dynamically adjusts voltage to OLED panels based on frame-by-frame peak luminance, maintaining brightness during SDR content.
Intel’s Panther Lake integration enables real-time power control via the Xe2 iGPU and timing controller. The tech is expected to debut on 2024 Core Ultra 3 laptops, potentially including Samsung’s Galaxy Book6 (Pro/Ultra) OLED models.
