North Texas Cities See Record Bedbug Treatment Searches: Pest Control Expert Warns of Spread

Bedbug infestation in North Texas homes, pest control treatments, and prevention methods.

North Texas cities are leading a statewide surge in bedbug treatment searches, with Frisco reporting a 1,000% spike in August alone.

Google search data reveals significant increases in queries for bedbug solutions across Frisco, McKinney, Fort Worth, Denton, and Irving, ranging from 311% to 1,000% year-over-year.

Daniel Baldwin of Hawx Pest Control explained the connection between search trends and infestation patterns: "The dramatic increase in online searches related to bedbug treatments highlights a concerning trend across the state."

He attributes infestations to bedbugs' ability to "hitchhike" via luggage, clothing, and furniture, noting that "high population density, multi-family housing, and frequent relocation for work and travel increase the chances of bedbugs moving from one property to another."

Public health officials recommend a multi-pronged approach to prevention and treatment. This includes washing fabrics in hot water, vacuuming regularly, sealing gaps in walls and furniture, using mattress encasements, and applying heat treatments or targeted pesticides.

Baldwin emphasized that these methods must be combined for maximum effectiveness.
