Nintendo Won't Budge on Dispatch Censorship—But AdHoc Is Plotting Season 2

Nintendo Switch game Dispatch with censored content

Nintendo’s content guidelines state: “Nintendo requires games on its platforms to meet content guidelines and receive ratings from independent organizations.” The company reiterated this policy through a formal statement: “Nintendo does not make changes to partner content. We also do not discuss specific content or the criteria used in making these determinations.

Dispatch’s Switch version automatically censors explicit content—black boxes over nudity and toned-down sexual noises—while other platforms retain the original release. AdHoc, the game’s developer, claims this censorship does not alter gameplay or narrative, insisting the “core experiences are identical to the original release.”

Community speculation has linked Dispatch’s case to Cyberpunk 2077’s Japan-specific version, which faced localized censorship.

However, no official explanation has been provided for Dispatch’s treatment. Meanwhile, AdHoc announced 1m+ sales in 10 days and confirmed plans for a second season.
