A Ghost and Fairy-type Pokemon from Generation 7 has finally entered Pokémon Go, wearing its signature Pikachu disguise. Mimikyu arrived on April Fools Day 2026, a fitting debut for a creature built on deception.
The Pokémon spawns in the wild throughout April Fools Day, from 12am to 11:59pm local time on Wednesday, April 1st. Players who can log in between 6pm and 7pm local time will find Mimikyu appearing at a higher rate, when it gatecrashes Pikachu's Spotlight Hour.
For those unable to play during April Fools Day, an alternative path exists. Reaching Rank 30 on the A Shockingly Good Time Go Pass unlocks an encounter with Mimikyu. This rank must be achieved by Monday, April 6th at 8pm local time. There is no daily Go Point limit from 12am local time on Saturday, April 4th to 7:59pm local time on Monday, April 6th. This window allows players to gather enough points to reach Rank 30 if needed.

At the time of writing, shiny Mimikyu is not available in Pokémon Go. When it does arrive, the shiny form leans into Mimikyu's ghostly side with a black and white design rather than copying shiny Pikachu's darker yellow coloring.
In battle, Mimikyu can take two forms. Disguised Form is how the Pokémon typically appears. Busted Form activates after Mimikyu is hit by a Charged Attack, with its fake Pikachu head hanging at an angle. This transformation protects Mimikyu from any damage the Charged Attack would inflict, acting as a hidden shield that does not require spending one of your two battle shields.
How Mimikyu will spawn after the April Fools Day event and Go Pass features end remains unknown.
