Microsoft Copilot Lets You Buy Stuff Without Leaving Your Chat—But Is It Better Than a Human?

Imagine shopping for a lamp while your AI chatbot finishes the sentence—then charges your credit card. Microsoft’s Copilot now includes an in-chat checkout feature for purchases, allowing users to buy products like lamps or sneakers directly within the AI chat interface.

Checkout partners include Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Etsy sellers, and furniture brands. Payment integrations are powered by PayPal, Stripe, and Shopify. However, the feature’s limited retailer support highlights technical constraints in scaling hands-free commerce.

Emma Roth, a tech commentator, noted: "My AI shopping assistants are stuck in the past... That day isn’t today." Competitors like OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Google (Search/Generative AI) also offer in-chat purchasing, but Microsoft’s rollout remains narrowly focused on specific partners.
