Microsoft Axed Office Lens—Your Scans Now Live in OneDrive, and You’re Not Happy

Microsoft is discontinuing Office Lens, shifting its document-scanning features to OneDrive. Users face workflow changes as the 2015 app ends support in early 2025.

Your favorite document scanner is vanishing—Microsoft’s killing Office Lens and forcing users to adapt to a newer, clunkier tool.

Microsoft will discontinue Office Lens (Microsoft Lens) for iOS and Android on February 9, 2025, with app functionality ending by March 9, 2025.

Document-scanning features for whiteboards, receipts, and documents will now reside in OneDrive, which now includes digital conversion to Word/PDF and editing tools.

Launched in 2015 for Windows Phone and later expanded to iOS and Android, Office Lens was a cornerstone of Microsoft’s mobile-first strategy. Its unique integration with Office apps is now considered redundant with OneDrive’s expanded capabilities.
