Indie Dev Scores Win as Microsoft Retracts DMCA Takedown Over 'Minecraft-Like' Game
Microsoft has reversed a DMCA takedown against indie game Allumeria—with no lawsuit filed and no action required from the developer.
Unomelon, the developer, confirmed the reversal:
"Microsoft has withdrawn the copyright claim with no action needed on my part... The Steam page and game has been fully restored."
The original takedown cited "Minecraft content" infringement. Microsoft’s claim stated:
"Judith Woodward, on behalf of Microsoft Corporation, alleges... your use of Minecraft content... infringes their rights."
Unomelon suspects the claim was triggered by an automated AI tool called Tracer.AI. Valve’s reinstatement process followed Microsoft’s withdrawal of the takedown, with no further disputes reported.
Other Minecraft-inspired games like Hytale and Vintage Story have not faced similar DMCA action.
