Georgetown University is betting its digital future on Cisco’s Wi-Fi 7 — and it’s not just about faster downloads.
Doug Little, Georgetown’s CIO, confirmed the overhaul: "Georgetown’s new network will deploy the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology." The university aims to support 6,000 wireless access points and 50,000 active devices, leveraging dynamic adjustments to channel, power, and bandwidth.
Gary DePreta, Cisco’s senior vice president, emphasized the shift in priorities: "Fast is the past—‘instant’ is the future when it comes to higher education."
Cisco’s AI-native tools optimize performance in high-density environments, a necessity for AI-driven research, big data analytics, and holographic simulations.
The security framework includes multi-factor authentication and end-to-end visibility. Cisco’s scalability is proven at Levi’s Stadium and Capital One Arena, where similar infrastructure handles massive event traffic.
