Clicks Communication: When Physical Keyboards Get Smarter Than Smartphones
The physical keyboard is making a comeback with a high-tech twist in Clicks Technology's new $499 Communicator.
Clicks Technology launched the $499 Communicator Android smartphone with a physical keyboard and an optional $79 slide-out keyboard that fits any device. The device runs Android 16 with the Niagara Launcher for a minimalist interface, featuring a 4.03-inch AMOLED display, 256GB storage, and 2TB microSD expandable.
Powered by a MediaTek 4nm 5G IoT processor and 8GB RAM, it includes a 4000mAh silicon-carbon battery weighing 170g.
Jeff Gadway commented on the keyboard design debate:
"We’re fighting over grams highlighting the tension between 110g and 120-130g key pressure for accessibility versus typing experience. The Communicator offers 5-year security updates to Android 20 and Android Strongbox-ready security for users prioritizing privacy."
Additional features include a 50MP rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 24MP front camera, and a customizable 'Signal Light' side button for alerts. The device sells at a rate of one every 6.5 seconds across both models.
Charging supports 18W wired and 15W Qi wireless, positioning it as a mid-tier option compared to Android flagships.
