Bungie's 'Marathon' Launches March 5 with Cross-Platform Play and Limited-Edition Hardware

Bungie's Marathon game art featuring Tau Ceti IV environment and cybernetic Runner character

Bungie’s sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon will debut on March 5, 2024, for PC (Steam), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S with cross-play and cross-save functionality. The game features co-op PvE and PvP mechanics set on Tau Ceti IV, 30 years after the events of the original trilogy.

Players will assume the role of cybernetic 'Runners' retrieving artifacts from a lost colony, a narrative framework distinct from Bungie’s prior Halo series due to its focus on extraction rather than traditional combat progression.

Three editions are available: Standard (cosmetic items), Deluxe (cosmetics plus first-rewards pass), and Collector’s Edition (physical bundle). Sony and Bungie will also release a limited-edition DualSense controller and Pulse Elite headset, exclusive to the US market.

Voice actors include Jennifer English, Neil Newbon, Erin Yvette, and Ben Starr. Pre-orders begin January 29, 2024.

The physical Collector’s Edition includes a steelbook case, art book, and exclusive in-game items. Digital pre-orders grant early access to the first mission and a cosmetic pack.

Cross-platform play will allow players to share progress across devices, though hardware-specific features like the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback will remain exclusive to PS5 users.
