Avatar Dead Game Just Got Reanimated—and Ubisoft Isn't Even Trying

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora's From the Ashes DLC characters in third-person cinematic mode

Avatar's Na’vi are flexing harder than a Disney stock chart—Ubisoft's dead game just clawed back to life.

Avatar: Fire and Ash surpassed $1 billion at the box office, directly correlating with a 664% spike in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora's Steam concurrent players—peaking at 15,283 as of January 2026. The From the Ashes DLC introduced third-person mode, New Game Plus, and a "different protagonist" with a darker, cinematic tone. Ubisoft's post-launch strategy emphasized "focused and rawer" content, per the expansion's description.

Simon Collins-Laflamme said:

"The best part is the paid From the Ashes expansion isn’t just more of the same... it’s more focused and rawer."

Ubisoft's history of post-launch revitalization includes For Honor, Rainbow Six Siege, and The Division. Frontiers of Pandora initially "failed to find a sizable audience" despite Avatar: The Way of Water's $2.3 billion box office success.
