Amazon's Green Grid Gambit: Powering the Future with Carbon-Free Investments
Amazon's Green Grid Gambit

Amazon isn't just buying renewable energy—it's building an entire carbon-free energy empire, one that could power 12 million homes while redefining corporate climate responsibility.

BloombergNEF has named Amazon the top corporate purchaser of carbon-free energy for 2025. The company's 40-gigawatt portfolio dwarfs industry averages, with 700+ projects across 28 countries creating 1,000+ construction jobs and 100+ permanent roles. In Mississippi alone, a 650MW renewable energy project will serve 150,000 homes while demonstrating grid modernization in action.

"Corporate renewable energy procurement has become one of the largest drivers of new carbon-free energy projects in the U.S.," said ACORE CEO Ray Long. Amazon's investments include $500 million in X-Energy for 5+ gigawatts of small modular reactor (SMR) nuclear capacity by 2039. These SMRs offer scalable baseload power that complements intermittent renewables.

"Amazon's leadership in this space is helping accelerate next-gen nuclear energy." noted Maria Korsnick of the Nuclear Energy Institute.
