Amazon’s Dash Cart Gets Smarter: Tap-Pay, Bigger Capacity, and No More Checkout Lines
Amazon’s Dash Cart gets a sleeker, smarter upgrade—no more hunting for hidden scanners or wrestling with clunky checkouts.
The redesigned Dash Cart now features an NFC-enabled tap-to-pay system, a built-in scale, and a 40% increase in capacity compared to the previous version. Weighing 25% less, the cart integrates interactive maps, Alexa shopping list synchronization, and computer vision for automatic pricing updates.
This marks a strategic shift in Amazon’s grocery strategy, aligning Whole Foods more closely with the Amazon brand through seamless tech integration.
"The scale works in tandem with on-cart cameras, weight sensors, and deep learning models to ensure accurate pricing for every item," the company noted.
Current test locations include three Whole Foods stores in McKinney, Texas; Reston, Virginia; and Westford, Massachusetts, plus two Amazon Fresh stores. The rollout is expected to expand to dozens of locations by year-end.
